Let’s start with the fact that there is no one who solves all the problems or who is ” the king of the toothbrushes ” but simply a series of models with different characteristics and functions; it’s up to you to find the most suitable one.
Electric Toothbrush: Power Supply
As a rule, electric toothbrushes have a low-voltage motor. They are powered by one or more batteries or by a power supply with a cable that recharges the batteries thanks to electricity. On the market, there are cheaper electric toothbrushes equipped with stylus batteries that work with 4500 oscillations per minute.
Many buy this model because the replacement batteries are easy to find at home but do not know that cleaning the teeth will never be perfect because the performance is low due to the low power.
If you prefer a deeper wash, you should choose a more expensive model with rechargeable batteries that can reach a speed of 9000 rpm. The best is the lithium ones, which guarantee excellent operation for about 15 days.
Heads
In a good electric toothbrush, the number of oscillations, pulsations, and rotations improve the cleaning of the teeth, before making the purchase, evaluate the performance.
Look for a model with interchangeable heads, because they perform many functions, evaluate the price of the replacement heads because, on the market, there are some models that have very expensive spare parts.
Usually, the heads have a duration of 2 or 3 months to understand when to change them. Just check the color of the bristles, and if these will be almost totally discolored, it will be time to replace them.
There are several models of interchangeable heads, some have rectangular brushes and perform different rotational and oscillatory movements with different speeds; others massage sensitive and bleeding gums, some have a whitening function, and others adapt to children’s mouths.
According to dentists, the ideal heads are circular ones, because they manage to eliminate food residues, tartar, and plaque, without damaging the gums.
Electric toothbrush for sensitive gums
If the buyer has particular pathologies, you cannot choose any model but must evaluate the one best suited to his problem, equipped with advanced technological functions.
For example, if you suffer from sensitive gums, we recommend the model with a pressure sensor, which detects the pressure exerted on the teeth or gums while using the brush. If it is excessive, it will warn you either with a light signal or with a sound signal.
For sensitive teeth, choose a model with a ” lighter ” cleaning method, it will cost more, but it is worth it.
Electric toothbrush for dental appliances
Those who have dental appliances must take great care to ensure that food does not deposit between the plates installed on the tooth. For them, the use of a manual toothbrush is not enough for this reason. The use of a water jet is recommended, an instrument that, with its pressure water jet, allows cleaning the food residues trapped in the interdental spaces.
We remind you that the water jet does not replace the electric toothbrush but is an addition to improve dental hygiene. On the market, there are some high-end models, which are sold in packs, including electric toothbrushes, water jet, and attached spare heads.
If you are a large family, do not choose a model with a small water container, you have to fill it often, prefer at least one 600 ml.
Timer
For perfect cleaning, 2 minutes are enough. On the market, there are some electric toothbrushes that have a vibration signal or an acoustic signal to indicate that the overall time has elapsed, or there are those that ring every 30 seconds (enough time to wash the 4 oral cavities one by one).
